When a Mercedes wasn't just a fast, luxurious car built to be leased for 3 years and 30,000 miles, and then traded in on a new one !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . No, there was a time, not too long ago, but before my lifetime, when the Germans were still making cars built like tanks and bank vaults that were engineered to perform as well as a car could, not just for the first owner, but for the fifth. These cars, cars like the W123, and 460-series, are what is missing from the luxury car market today. The last may have been the W124, but the best in my opinion was the 1991 Mercedes-Benz 560SEL, the W126. I will lust after one of these cars until I can get my hands on one. Fortunately for me, even if that takes 80 years, there will still be some of them left in perfect working order. Don't get me wrong, I love Mercedes's current lineup, and I think they are some of the finest cars on the road today. But unlike their ancestors, I don't think they will live on to be some of the finest cars on the road 30 years from now.

Concur 100%, especially regarding the W126. My '82 300SD is tired and needs a lot of work but it's still a hell of a car.
